 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there age requirements to be a barista?

A: Yes, to be a barista in Colorado one needs to be 18 or provide proof of a high school diploma, or GED.

The Colorado Youth Employment Opportunity Act (C.R.S. 8-12-101 et seq.) regulates the employment of minors in Colorado. The same act defines  a minor as, "any person under the age of 18, except a person who has received a high school diploma or a passing score on the general educational development (GED) examination". Written in section 8-12-110, "operation of ANY high pressure steam or water boiler is considered hazardous & prohibited" for minors.  You can read more at this link.

A: When we are hiring we advertise on Craig's List. This link will take you to Craig's List where you can check if we are hiring. If we are not hiring, you are still welcome to apply, we are always looking for awesome people! Please bring a resume to the store and include the following:

* A cover letter
* Why you would like to work for The Coffee Tree

Q: Can I reserve a space for my group to meet?

A: Yes! We do frequently reserve areas of the cafe for people. We currently have several groups that meetup reguarly such as: knitting groups, book clubs, discussion groups, gaming and writing groups. We have also hosted baby showers, book signings and book release parties.

We cap our reservations at a 25 person maximum. The 25 person maximum includes other reservations that may be occurring at the same time.

Our request for this service is that people make purchases (no additional charges) and that the group does not solicit customers. We do allow passive solicitation such as a sign(s) to be placed on your table(s) that could read, as an example, "We are a book club now accepting new readers. Come join us!".

The best way to reserve an area of the cafe is to call the store at (970) 663-1885. Anyone who answers can help you. Be prepared by knowing what day and time you would like to make a reservation, the number you expect to attend, and to give a name and contact number.

Q: Tell me about your "Art Wall", I am an artist and would like to display my art at your store, what do I need to do?

A: Once a month we feature a new artist(s) and their original work at The Coffee Tree in concordance with Night on the Town (2nd Friday of each month). We host only original paintings or photographs, no statues, sculptures or other pieces of work. We have three walls we allow an artist to use. If an artist can fill only one wall we may do multiple artists at once. This is a very popular free service we provide and the wall(s) are normally booked out a year in advance.

In addition to allowing artists to hang their original work we also allow displays of personal biographical and contact information. If an artist wishes to sell their work that is exclusively between the artist and buyer. The Coffee Tree does not conduct any transactions on behalf of either party nor do we ask for a commission.

If you wish to display your art at The Coffee Tree contact us at this link.

Q: What animals allowed in your store?

A: The Larimer County Health Department only allows service animals in food establishment. Since pets must be left outside we do keep a water dish for there fpr them and free dog biscuits inside.

Q: Entertainment, do you host karaoke, bands, or open mic nights?

A: Currently no, however, it is something we have considered. Such events require a music license from one of the major licenser such as BMI or ASCAP, which we do not have. If you would like us to do such events in the future let us know at this link. The more request we get for such events the more we will pursue them.
